Can't Select Any Contacts for Group

I've got to be doing something wrong.
I've spent a few days trying to get my contacts imported and the data cleaned up.
The fields were a little wonky so I had to do it several times.
I've deleted 3/4 of my contacts just out of frustration!
Anyway, I've got contacts in there now and I'm trying to create a group and select the group members.
When I enter the group name and go to select the "group members' the selection box is empty in spite of 226 "Local Contacts".

I disconnected from sync thinking that it was just reloading the contacts that I was trying to correct or delete.

It appears that you imported the first and last names of your contacts into custom fields. Only the default first name, last name, and/or company fields that are populated will be displayed in the "Select members" dialog window.

Okay. Thanks. I created a new file and just did a clean import from the csv file and it all worked just fine.
I thought my field names were the same as the default but I guess not.
