Database getting a lot larger than contents
EssentialPIM version 11.1.11
Windows 10
I only use the Notes part of EssentialPIM. The Database Management screen says the Notes size is 250MB, but the database size is 2.2GB. I used version 8.53 for a long time as I had a problem going to 9.4. I took a chance going to 11.0.4 in August, this seemed okay. The database size and Notes size were comparable at that point. At some point since then I remember the database size going to around 1GB and now it is 2.2GB.
I have tried the optimise tool with no improvement. What can I do to reduce the size of the database and to stop further untoward expansion ?

The quickest and easiest way would be to sync your data into the new DB file using EPIM Synchronizer.
Android version of EssentialPIM. Keep all your data in sync!

Thanks that worked, now at 260MB. I did notice that it was re-arranged in alphabetical order but then I found View->Arrange by->Custom Order.

Re: Database getting a lot larger than contents
Just tried that with Epim 11.5.1 and EPim Sync 11.2 but the (empty) target database was "greater" than the (filled) source database.
That procedure didn't work... any other suggestions?

Re: Database getting a lot larger than contents
What were you trying to achieve? How big is your database? What is the size of the newly synced database?

New database is empty.
Old one has ~2.4 GB
Tried to sync from big to new as one way sync

Ok, so why do you think your database isn't currently optimized in terms of its size? And what was the size of the new database after the synchronization?

Re: Database getting a lot larger than contents
All my imap folders where set to "headline only". My database size was about 400 MB.
Then I set folders of "whole message" and the size went up to 2.4 GB
So I reset to "headline only" but size didn't shrink. I thinks it's because all messages have allready be synchronized completely.
That's was my fault because the setting is for further synchronizaion I think.
While I am writing these lines I get the idea, that the only thing to shrink my database is:
Remove all mail accounts.
Optimize database (hoping it will shrink)
Reconnect to IMAP accounts and only load headlines.
What do you say?

Re: Database getting a lot larger than contents
You'd need to remove your accounts and then add them back in, no further action is required. The DB will optimize itself automatically with time.
