I keep images turned off all the time but, some times I actually want to read news flyers, but I don't want to allow images generically from that sender.
Which means at the moment every time I want to read a news flyer from a company I have to go into the options toggle hide/show images then refresh the email view.
It would be really nice if there was a hotkey option to do the same thing.
Hotkey to toggle show/hide images in mail.

Please see attached screenshot, doesn't the yellow bar solve it for you?

Nope that only shows up when you have it set to allow images from people in your contacts.
I do not want images from people from my contacts to be shown.

I like this idea too!
I also sometimes get pictures from friends- inline- in a size, bigger than my screen is. Than I go to "attachments", double-click it and the picture opens with my pictureviewer. But the email themself is not comfortably readable with such big pictures in it. Than I would turn off pictures in email.
In thunderbird this is solved better- Thunderbird renders pictures to only fullscreen, if they are bigger.
