Error loop on client sleep wake
All most every time a client computer goes to sleep for more then a couple of minutes with EPIM open and connected to a network database it goes into an infinite error loop and has to be terminated in task manager and re-opened.
Started a new thread since the last one seemed to be about the host going to sleep. In this case the host is always awake and has active users on it. This is a client side issue.

Re: Error loop on client sleep wake
I was trying out the network features so I could more easily work between my desktop and laptop by hosting the server on my media PC and found this same issue to efficiently ruin the experience as my laptop goes to sleep really easily to save battery life which means I wind up having to kill EPIM dozens of times through the day, which is less efficient then moving around a USB key between the systems.

Re: Error loop on client sleep wake
Something painful I learned today.
If your router/hub/other glitches and EPIM goes into this error loop well you are working and it hasn't saved you will loss everything that wasn't saved. As the Loop prevents you from even being able to copy/past what is on screen in front of you.

Re: Error loop on client sleep wake
It's an old thing. Around 2 years.
No information on anything being worked on.
It happens also on host PC, however, years ago it didn't. The answer from the EPIM is that host PC runs server so should not go asleep at all. Well, not quite. As said, for years, if the host went asleep, after wake up it could run the same opened DB. I see no reason why to make users experience worse here, if it already worked better.

Re: Error loop on client sleep wake
I tend to agree in that you don't expect host computers to go to sleep... and if the error was just the host computer I couldn't really blame them for ignoring it. Which is why I started a new thread. This is effecting the clients on an always on host. This is a bad an really annoying issue. At the very least they need to fix the error loop so you can close out of EPIM without having to kill it in a task manager.
We use many other server connected tools that can handle the client going to sleep, and even build some our selves. It takes very little work to add a logic loop to reconnected to the server rather then just throw an endless error about not being able to connect to a server. Or better yet take the extra hour of work to just change the the error so to has two buttons. One to close the program and one to try reconnecting to the database.
It's one of the big shames about EPIM being closed source with no plugin support. We have a half dozen people here that could fix this and it's been driving us crazy and yet all we can do is wait and hope since the thread hasn't even gotten a reply from staff yet.

Re: Error loop on client sleep wake
As said, for several years it has not been a problem with EPIM, worked, as you said. Since some time, don't remember, it's been going loop.TumbleDoor wrote: Fri Sep 06, 2019 7:38 pm

Re: Error loop on client sleep wake
Testing out network use myself and major +1 this really needs to be fixed.
Almost anyone who is even remotely eco-conscious will have their client system setup to go to sleep in 10mins or less. As is this is basically punishing people for saving the world one watt at a time.

Okay, first things first. Please post here a screenshot with the error message along with the error log (if there's any).

Re: Error loop on client sleep wake
No error logs are made as far as I can tell.
It's really easy to reproduce:
Connect to a EPIM on a host then sleep system, Unplug Ethernet cable, disable NIC, or anything else to temporally interrupt the connection then you are into the infinite error loop.
Here's a screen shot:

Re: Error loop on client sleep wake
Thank you. Here's the link to a presumable fixed version: www.essentialpim.com/download/temp/Esse ... roPort.zip
This executable is from the Portable version, so you need to backup your current EPIM executable file first, then overwrite it with the one from the above mentioned zip archive and check if EPIM starts working as expected after sleep.

Re: Error loop on client sleep wake
That changed the error and it now makes logs, but still goes into an infinite error loop.
