Rogue Appointment appearing after Synchronization [Solved]

Post by SwanseaMick »

When I Sync my iPad to my PC, a rogue appointment/event keeps appearing on my PC.

My iPad shows a 2 day swimming event running from 20 Oct 2018 to 21 Oct 2018.
What appears on my PC is a similar swimming event but running for 6942 days from 20 Oct 2018 to 21 Oct 2039.

I checked my iPad, and correct details of event are shown. I deleted the event from my PC and after another sync, the faulty event re-appears on my PC! As a test, I changed title of Event on the iPad. Then synced to my PC, which then showed two events, the renamed one, and the rogue one, (with old name)

Where else does Epim get its synchronisation data from, as the rogue event is not in the iPad Calendar!

This is doing my head in, so any clues would be welcome.

Hello,

remove the event from EPIM and iPad, wherever it is visible. Then, before doing any further synchronisations, please go to File-> Database Management and clear iOS synchronisation data. Then, perform the sync.

Maxim,
Thanks for the reply, and I was hopeful this was the solution BUT the rogue event still re-appear following sync.(Epim Pro 8.14).
I even tried re-deleting data, then closing then re-opening Epim to no avail

I am doing a 1-way sync from iPad to PC. The event is NOT in Calendar on iPad, yet it magically appears on PC following sync.

Maxim,
In tools/options/synchroinization, I have enabled extensive logging, but there is nothing in help file for me to check I'm doing it correctly.
Where is log file saved?

Hello,

logs won't help in this case, as we will just see the event coming from iPad.
If you are doing 1-way iPad-> PC sync, then this won't definitely help:" I deleted the event from my PC and after another sync, the faulty event re-appears on my PC!"
There are not many options- the event is there on iPad- maybe some iPad settings are just not showing it to you, but EPIM can't generate events on its own:)

Maxim,
I disagree that logs can’t help. I need to confirm that the entry IS coming from the iPad! Epim obviously gets data from places other than from the iPad, otherwise why clear the synchronisation data? (You initially thought it was coming from there)

If it is not visible in the Calendar on the iPad, where else could it be coming from?
I cleared the synchronization data on the PC, but how can we check it really did clear it?

These are serious questions that I need answers to.

Maxim,
I deleted the rogue event on PC.
Then performed a Sync (EPIM ->iOS), (including deletions).
Then performea a sync (iOS -> EPIM), (including deletions)
Rogue event did not re-appear!

Where it came from and where it disappeared to, heaven only knows.

Just hope that's the end of it!

NB For future reference, it would be nice to know how to use extensive logging, and where log file is stored

Hello,

the reason I asked to clear syncghronization is that it might fix synchronization in some cases.
Regarding Extended logging, that's in Tools-> Options-> Synchronization

Maxim,
I know where to turn it on, but where is log file saved?
Why isn't it covered in the help file?

In the same tab that I mentioned above you see Browse... button. That allows you to navigate to log files.

Maxim,

I may be thick, but that doesn’t make sense to me. Browse infers you are looking for an existing log file. It really needs clarifying. As i have already stated, the help file is not very helpful in this regard.

e.g. If I choose to create a log file of the sync but ticking the box, what exactly happens. Is a log file created? There is nowhere for me to specify a filename for the log nor specify a folder to store it in.

Maxim,

I finally worked it out, but your help file could do with amending to make things clearer, along the lines of:

After initiating Logging, a log file is created whenever you do yyy (ie.what actions cause a log file to be created), and is stored in xxx directory.
Once you have initiated logging, you can browse the xxx directory for any reports that have been created using the Browse button. The directory will be empty until you have created your first report log
.
