Import Linked Data from Other PIM
Hi,
I'm new to EssentialPIM, and I'm looking at the Pro version for its client-server approach and open db. I have several PIMs/contact managers that I need to clean up and consolidate. Since they include a combination of contacts, tasks, notes and projects, I would like to import the data and retain the links. I have searched the forum for importing linked data but have not found anything.
So,
Thanks.

So,
- Is there a way to import data to the PRO version and retain the links?
- If not, would I be able to import the data and build the links directly in the underlying Firebird db?
Thanks.

Hello,
could you please give an example of another PIM and give an example of of cross-linked data there?

Re: Import Linked Data from Other PIM
Sure,
I have been using MarketCircle Daylite. In that package, a task can be linked to a contact so that I can keep track of who I am doing what for. Or I can link a project to a contact and a task in order to group these together. In these cases, I would have, at least, a common contact name, task name and/or project name. I also believe, with a bit of fiddling, I could extract unique identifiers, it that would be helpful. But ultimately, I am interested in understanding (a) if it is possible and (b) how, even with a very simply example that would allow me to import a contact and then import a task that I link to the contact. I would be willing to do the rest if need be.
Let me know if you need more details.
Thanks.

Thank you. EPIM does not support importing with links currently. I am also pretty sure MarketCircle does not export linked data.
You can import data without links. Linking data by manipulating Firebird is possible, but may turn out to be quite complicated- there is no ready solution for that.

Thanks. How would I go about linking creating a link within Firebird? What would the link look like? For instance, if I could identify a todo and a contact, what is the format to create an EssentialPIM link?

Hello, though the DB itself is open source, the format of the DB has evolved to be quite complex over the years. There is no published documentation- that’s what I meant in my previous post. You can look at cross-linked item in DB and see how the link is made.
