The setup: 1 server computer that is also its own client + 3 additional client computers
The scenario: User A is working on the server computer, with the datafile opened in network mode. User B is working on a client computer, accessing the same data file over the network.
The problem: User B, working on the client computer, accesses a record and begins entering data on the Notes tab. But in the middle of the data entry the client computer reverts the user back to a record that was accessed earlier. Regardless of which subsequent record User B tries to edit, the computer keeps jumping back to the same, earlier record.

Re: 4.2 problem - client computer not staying on record
Thank you for the detailed description. Can you confirm, is it 4.24 version? We will try to reproduce then.

Re: 4.2 problem - client computer not staying on record
Yes, it is 4.24 version. I'm not sure if another symptom we're seeing is related or not, but the users also report that when working on the server computer (acting as its own client), and no other clients connected, the system will exhibit similar behavior. While the user is typing in a record, the system will sporadically go off that record and into another, causing all work to be lost. The user reports this seems to happen about 15-20 seconds after he begins entering information on a record, typically on the Notes tab.

Re: 4.2 problem - client computer not staying on record
More information: sometimes the system jumps to another record, but other times it just goes off the record entirely and doesn't select another record to jump to. All tabs show no data, and any data the user was typing prior to the jump is gone. I'm e-mailing the support team a video of a recent event. I don't want to post it here because the screen recording contains confidential client data.
This happens intermittently but it seems like when it starts happening, it keeps happening. At other times the user can go for hours without seeing this problem.
