Listing child tasks

Post by Jon »

There is the capability to identify or assign a parent when viewing or creating a task. I sort tasks based on due date, so I cannot identify the children if their due dates are scattered (tomorrow, next week, etc.). As a clunky work-around, I have to re-sort the task list then restore sort by due date.

As with the ability to see what the parent is, I wonder if it is possible to see child tasks? Ideally I would be able to select and go to any of the child tasks in the list.

I hope my request is clear.

Thank you for considering.

You can enable the path column to make the position of tasks within the hierarchy visible. Could that be what you were looking for?

Thank you for responding.

It is of some limited use. Suppose the parent task has 6 children whose due dates range from tomorrow though next year. I would like to be able to see the child tasks in an similar way to choosing from the list of parent tasks when I am assigning a task to a parent. That would get me most of the way, but it would be nice if the child tasks are links. That way I would be able to immediately go to the task to make adjustments as needed.

The workaround I use is to temporarily exit sorting by due date so I can see all the tasks and subtasks in context.

Another workaround would be to use the filtering option on the Path column. This will allow you to quickly display only the child tasks belonging to a specific parent task. Unfortunately, at the moment there's probably no other built-in options to achieve this.

The suggestion to filter is as close as I need. Not perfect but very workable.

Thank you.
