Steve,
go to "Options", "Mail/Display and Compose" and check "dont show external email messages", this should help.

Unless there is a second layer to the trick, that doesn't do it. I want images to show everywhere EXCEPT FOR SPAM AND DELETED MESSAGES. I want to check the spam folder for false positives. I don't want the danger of images showing for those. I'm willing to live with it for all else.

But, that gives me an idea, and perhaps this is what you meant. I turn it off globally, and then turn it on for individuals (perhaps folders?). Will that work?

I may give it a try tomorrow.

Just to provide feedback. I turned off showing images globally, and then turn it on when I want. This works fine. There is no need for folder-specific controls. I was wrong.
