IMAP folder don't synchronize for complete message

Postby alin_derom » Thu Jul 29, 2010 9:51 am

I just installed essential PIM 3.5.4 Pro (trial version) to check it out.
When creating an e-mail account (IMAP) all folders (about 50) and message headers get synchronized :D . I have configured for every folder that the complete message must be synchronized. When starting EPIM or clicking send/receive I notice 4 threads that have a status "synchronizing folders" for a second, but then they stay on "waiting". Even after one hour no message has been downloaded completely except the ones that I clicked manually (they are downloaded the moment I click them) :( . It is not beacause of a slow connect because when i open outlook2010 on that same computer for that same e-mail account, then the sysnchronisation in outlook works.
I do notice that NEW items are downloaded colmpletely :D . So the problems apparently only exists with messages that were previously downloaded in" headers only"-mode. Is there anything wrong? Any solution instaed of clicking all my 15.000 mails one by one?

Do you mean that you initially downloaded messages in "Headers only" mode, and then changed the setting? In any case, go to File-> Database Management and Clear Synchronization data for IMAP. Then click Send/Receive as you do usually. That will re-synchronize all messages and you should get whole messages. That might take a while.

Initially i configured nothing, but apparently when creating a IMAP-email account all the folders are put automtically into "synchronize headers only". It was only a few minutes after installing that i manually put every folder in "full download".
Sorry but your suggestion did not help. I even tried it several times. A certain moment the treads stay tuned on one of the folder (see screenshot). But when this is finished and I look into the folder, then i notice that there are still only headers.

It should work. How do you determine whether there are headers or full messages?

You can see this in 2 ways.
First : Look at the first attachment (screenshot41). The upper icon shows that only the header has been downloaded, the bottom shows that the whole message has been downloaded.
Second : You can take a big message (with attachment). And click on it (choose a message from which only the header is downloaded). And you will see the second attachment (screenshot42) appearing. The Dutch text means "A moment please, busy loading the message". This can take a while. If later on you reclick on this message it appears directy since it has already been downloaded.

Thank you, yes, you are right, currently you are not getting the full messages for old mail.
You either have to make a new EPIM database, or, do the procedure on your current database:
- make sure computer has no access to the INternet (turn off Wifi module)
- delete all old mail in EPIM
- clear IMAP synchronization data in EPIM
- connect to the Internet.
EPIM wil now download the full old messages.
But, this way is dangerous, if you do not follow every step as described above.

Thanks, I know this. I have no problem doing this but a "regular" user may make some mistakes.
For another issue i heared that it would only be available in version 4.0 (automatic outlook synchronisation). Let's hope that this issue is also resolved in that version.
Thanks for your your help and suggestions.

Wouldn't it be easier and safer to delete the account via Tools->Account Settings->{POP/IMAP email acc't}?

Then, once ePim is done removing the account from the database, you can add it back, change 'default' setting to get full message and then send/Receive.

Just curious if this would be better?

Indeed that could be an option, and certainly is easier. (Would be even easier if you could export your e-mail settings like in outlook express).
But suppose that while using EPIM on a regular base you accidentally put the settings to "headers only", and later on change it back to "complete message". And then you want to check an important e-mail while being unable to go online. Wouldn't that be unfortunate.
Actually I have deleted the account and remade it, and it works, but it is still a bug that could give some users a problem.

I can not confirm it as a bug. Some users like it current way, some may want the other way. An additional option is needed, but can not promise a quick implementation.
